The Agafay Desert is the reason you don't have to drive ten hours to the Sahara to stand in silence and watch the sun sink behind the mountains. Just 40 minutes south of Marrakech, Agafay is a rolling landscape of pale, rocky hills — a "stone desert" rather than sand dunes — with the snow-capped High Atlas rising on the horizon. It's the closest genuine desert escape to the city, and at golden hour it's unforgettable.
This half-day trip is built around that sunset. We collect you from your riad or hotel in the afternoon, drive out as the heat softens, and give you the desert at its best light: a camel ride across the ridges, mint tea at a Berber camp, and time to simply take it in. Add a traditional dinner under the stars, or head back to Marrakech in time for your own evening plans.
What you'll do
Afternoon hotel pick-up
Your driver meets you in an air-conditioned vehicle and heads south out of the city toward the Agafay hills.
Arrive in the Agafay Desert
The city gives way to open, lunar terrain. Stop for the panoramic viewpoint over the hills and the Atlas beyond.
Camel ride at golden hour
A gentle, guided ride across the ridges as the light turns amber — the signature Agafay moment, and a genuinely easy one for families.
Mint tea & sunset
Settle in at a desert camp for Moroccan mint tea and watch the sun drop behind the mountains.
Optional dinner & Berber music
Add a three-course Moroccan dinner with live music under the stars, then a relaxed drive back to your hotel.
