When Marrakech gets hot, locals head for the Ourika Valley. Just an hour south into the High Atlas foothills, the temperature drops, the Ourika river runs alongside the road, and Berber villages cling to green terraces on the slopes. It's the easiest way to swap the city's heat and bustle for waterfalls and fresh air, and back in time for dinner.
The valley climbs to Setti Fatma, where a moderate walk leads up to a series of seven waterfalls. Along the way you'll stop at a Berber home for mint tea, see how argan oil is made, and have lunch at a table set right beside the river. It's relaxed, scenic and genuinely refreshing — our most popular full-day trip for first-timers.
Your driver collects you and heads south, leaving the city behind for the Atlas foothills.
Stop to see how argan oil is pressed by hand, and share mint tea with a Berber family.
A moderate guided hike up to the seven waterfalls — good shoes help, but the first fall is easily reached.
Lunch at a restaurant with tables set beside the Ourika river — tagine, grills and cool mountain air.
A relaxed drive back down the valley, arriving late afternoon.
Ourika is the most accessible mountain-nature day trip from Marrakech — a genuinely cooler, greener valley without requiring real hiking fitness. Where Imlil rewards serious walkers, Ourika keeps the pace easy and family-friendly while still delivering real waterfalls, real villages and a real change of scenery from the city.

Travel from Marrakech toward the Ourika River, with scenic stops along the way and time in Setti Fatma. The waterfall path includes uneven and sometimes slippery sections; the walk is optional, so you can enjoy the riverside setting without hiking. A private vehicle lets you adapt stops and time at each location to your interests.
Pickup arrangements depend on access to your hotel or riad; medina properties may use a nearby vehicle-accessible meeting point. Lunch, local guiding and optional activities should be confirmed in the selected booking option. Weather and road conditions may affect the day's route.
Ourika is the better fit if you want a lively riverside atmosphere and the option to walk toward the Setti Fatma waterfalls. Ouirgane is a quieter alternative for mountain scenery, village landscapes and a relaxed day without a waterfall hike. Both are available as private excursions from Marrakech.
