A long day, but a real change of scene

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and its economic capital — a completely different character from Marrakech's medina and gardens. The centrepiece is the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, built right on the Atlantic with a minaret that towers 210 metres over the ocean. Honestly: it's a long way from Marrakech, around two and a half to three hours each way, so this is a full and genuinely long day rather than a relaxed one.

Beyond the mosque, you'll see the Corniche seafront, the old medina and central Casablanca's Art Deco architecture — a side of Morocco that feels more modern than anywhere else in the country. We recommend this trip specifically for travellers who want to see Casablanca itself, rather than as a casual add-on; if you're short on time, our closer trips like Essaouira or Ouzoud make for an easier day.

Good to know

Before you go

Is Casablanca worth a day trip from Marrakech?
If you specifically want to see the Hassan II Mosque and experience Morocco's modern economic capital, yes. But be aware it's a long day — around five to six hours of driving in total — so it suits travellers with time to spare rather than a short stay.
Can we go inside the mosque?
The mosque grounds and exterior are always viewable. Interior guided tours run on a set schedule (not Fridays) and are ticketed separately on-site — we can advise on timing.
Would it be better to stay overnight in Casablanca?
For a more relaxed visit, yes — but many visitors prefer to base themselves in Marrakech throughout their trip and do Casablanca as one long day. Talk to us if you'd like help planning an overnight instead.
Is this trip suitable for children?
It's a long day in the car, so it suits older children and adults better than very young kids. Let us know your group and we'll advise honestly.
